Playing with my charcoal pencils again... though this time I also used a crappy ballpoint pen for inking a bit. Big mistake, because I decided I hated Shesta/Chesta's right eye and had no choice but to white it out and redraw it closed (it was originally open, I liked it better this way). Anyway, the whiteout caused that slight blurry weirdness.
I dunno why I went and added the wings. They're not meant to look anatomically realistic or anything, they're just there because I felt like it, so I didn't try to make the feathers look all that... feathery.
I actually rather like the charcoal for doing the Ryuugekitai uniform... it's much easier than inking in all the black leather and having to worry about highlights.
That's what makes him fun to draw... innocent face, you know there's so much more. I can't draw flat characters, they're boooring.
Charcoal's... odd... for me. I can accentuate with it, but I still need a harder pencil for sketching, and I doubt I'll ever produce anything truly great with charcoal.
And oddly, I usually go for a realistic look with wings - I'm not fond of stylized feathers. So I'm glad it works here.
